Baked Goods

The Backdoor Bakery uses only the freshest ingredients available to make its hand-made, from-scratch baked goods every day. I take pride in choosing locally produced and/or organic ingredients whenever possible - Cabot butter, VT eggs and cheeses, King Arthur flours; I even "gather" my own fresh milk from the neighborhood cow, Spring, when I have the time.

Croissants – a classic French pastry that's flaky, tender, buttery and rich. Croissants are the Backdoor Bakery's signature product, and are available each day in a variety of flavors: Plain, Chocolate, Cheese, Cheese, Almond, Cinnamon-Raisin.

Turnovers – a puff pastry shell wrapped around a savory or sweet filling. Apple (a slice of apple pie in a hand-held pocket), Pineapple, Cheese, Spinach and Cheese, Mushroom-Caramelized Onion.

Danish – a sweet, buttery pastry filled with cream cheese, or rich organic fruit spreads.

Muffins & Sweet Breads – the classic American breakfast. Sample flavors include: Banana (vegan), Lemon-Poppy Seed, Pumpkin, Gingerbread, Blueberry, Cranberry-Walnut.

Scones – a classic Irish breakfast biscuit that's not too sweet. Sample flavors include: Maple-Oat, Craisin-Pecan, Lemon-Cardamom, Triple-Ginger, Chocolate.

Bagels & Breads – products include: wheat and white bagels, cinnamon-raisin bagels, cheese bagels, pretzels, brioche, rustic white, baguettes, multi-grain boules.

Cakes & Tarts — while cakes and tarts are available at the bakery only on special occasions (e.g., dessert nights), we are happy to satisfy any special order.

  • Citrus Sensation Cake – an orange-scented white sponge cake layered with lemon cream filling, and topped with a lime-flavored buttercream. This signature dessert was developed when Dean and Patti were living in Tonga.

    Chocolate-Raspberry Cake – chocolate cake layered with raspberry ganache, glazed with chocolate-buttercream, and topped with fresh raspberries.

  • Frangipane Tart –a rich nut pastry accented with fruit. Choose between an almond (typically paired with pears or sour cherries), walnut (paired with apples), or pecan (paired with chocolate or peaches, when in season) frangipane tart.

    Fresh Fruit Tart – a sweet and tender crust filled with a creamy custard filling – vanilla, lemon, or hazelnut – and topped with fresh fruit.

    Chocolate Tart – a sweet and tender crust filled with a chocolate custard.

I use locally produced and/or organic ingredients whenever possible. My "plastic" packaging is cellulose – it's organic and completely biodegradable; just toss it into the compost with your other garden scraps.

  • butter from Cabot Creamery
  • cream from Butterworks Farm* and Monument Farms
  • flour from King Arther Flour* and Gleasons Grains*
  • eggs from our own free-range, organic chickens and ducks*, or Maple Wind Farm
  • milk from our local family cow, Spring*
  • maple syrup from Higley Sugarworks, Dragonfly Sugarworks, or Purintons
  • berries from our own garden* and Last Resort Farm*

While the utmost care is always taken, the Backdoor Bakery cannot ensure the purity of its ingredients. Products with eggs and/or nuts are identified in the display case. There is, however, the possibility of contamination (i.e., nuts in a product that does not contain nuts). Please ask if there are other allergy concerns.
